Thank you for trying Version 2.7 of the Rover Pack for OS/2. This file
contains the latest information about this release.
What is Version 2.7?
Version 2.7 is the first release of the Rover Pack by Sundial Systems.
However, the Rover Pack was created by Sundial Systems and Orange Hill
Software based on technology and features previously available in earlier
Orange Hill Software products such as the Workplace Solution. The Rover
Pack reflects that heritage (thus the version number) while also providing
significant new features (thus the new name).
Installation
To install the Rover Pack, just run the Install program provided with the
package and follow the instructions.
The details can be found in the "Overview and Installation Guide." The
installation program gives you the option of viewing this information
before the actual installation begins.
You can also view the guide without the Install program by using the
following command (from the product distribution diskette or the directory
where you have unzipped a downloaded copy):
view rpkinstl.inf
If you have an earlier Orange Hill Software product installed, be sure to
consult the guide before installing the Rover Pack so that you can review
the options you have for upgrading your existing installation.
If you need to uninstall the Rover Pack at some future point in time, make
sure none of the Rover Pack components are in use, then simply delete the
directory where the software is installed (including its subdirectories)
and also delete the main (Desktop) Rover Pack folder. The easiest way
to do this is by dragging each of these folders to the Shredder.
OS/2, Presentation Manager, and Workplace Shell Compatibility:
The Rover Pack is designed specifically for use with OS/2 Warp Versions 3
and 4. This includes all of the following releases:
OS/2 Warp 4
"General Availability" release
OS/2 Warp Server
"General Availability" release
OS/2 Warp Connect
"Red Box" (for use with Windows) release
"Blue Box" (with Win-OS2) release
OS/2 Warp (OS/2 Version 3)
"Red Box" (for use with Windows) release
"Full Pack" (with Win-OS2) release
Most "FixPak" levels of OS/2 Warp, Warp Connect, and Warp Server have also
been tested.
Limitations
Listed below are some known limitations which may impact your use of the
current version of the Rover Pack:
* While the Rover Pack enhances your use of the Workplace Shell, it does
this without making modifications to the Shell (such as registering class
extensions or installing hooks). Thus, the Rover Pack should not
conflict with other Workplace Shell extension or enhancement products
which you have installed.
However, because Sundial Systems cannot possibly test all such variations
of all such products especially as they are updated by the vendors
involved, the Rover Pack cannot be expected to operate error free in all
such situations.
If you suspect the existence of such a problem, please contact Support
Services and provide a detailed list of the Workplace Shell related
products which you have installed -- including version numbers or
"fixpak" levels as appropriate.
* The various other members of the Sundial Systems family of OS/2 products
automatically appear within the Retriever's menus and in the Project
Master facility. When such an option is disabled, it generally means
that the corresponding product is not installed on your system.
However, the Clearlook option will always be disabled after you install
the Rover Pack or after you install Clearlook 1.x. The reason for this
is that the Clearlook 1.x installation procedure does not leave
sufficient information on your system for Clearlook to be found
automatically by the Rover Pack.
To correct this, a special utility program is included in the Rover Pack
distribution. This program will do a search of your desktop to find a
Clearlook 1.x installation and provide the Rover Pack with the
information it needs. To use the utility, simply run:
clsearch
from the Rover Pack diskette (or the directory where you have unzipped a
downloaded copy). You may need to repeat this procedure if you reinstall
Clearlook.
* Similarly, if you have manually recreated the program objects associated
with the various Sundial Systems products, the Rover Pack Retriever may
not recognize these objects correctly. In this case, the menu options
for those products in the Retriever will be disabled.
Generally, reinstalling the product in question (or having the product's
installation program recreate the desktop objects where that is an option)
will correct the problem.
Alternatively, you can contact Sundial Systems Support Services for
instructions on how to make Rover aware of the program objects you have
created manually. Please do so by email and be sure to include (1) which
product and version is involved and (2) the exact name of the program
object you are using to start the product.
* There is a known problem that in some circumstances causes an erroneous
error message to be displayed when opening the OS/2 Toolbar (also known
as the Launch Pad) under Warp 4. This message can be safely ignored --
simply OK the error and continue. This will be corrected in a future
release.
