A note about the future of ecsoft2.org

ecsoft2.org runs on software (Drupal 7 and PHP 7.4) that reached its end of life years ago and no longer receives security updates. Keeping the site online safely is getting harder.

Giving it a future means migrating it to a current platform — and that is only worth doing if people still use it and want to help keep it alive.

If you care about ecsoft2.org, as a user, a contributor, or someone willing to lend a hand, please ggambatiscali [dot] it (get in touch) by January 31, 2027.

If no one comes forward by then, the site will be turned into a read-only archive, so that its content stays available.

This software is distributed as compressed package. You have to download and manually install it; if prerequisites are required, you will have to manually install them too.

Manual installation

Program is distributed as ZIP package: download to temporary directory and unpack to destination folder. Run GFINST.EXE. See below for download link(s).

For example, C:\OS2\DLL. Copy the Group Folder help file, GFOLDER.HLP, to your help directory, for example, C:\OS2\HELP. Then start the installation program, GFINST.EXE. It will prompt you for the path where your copied the GFOLDER.DLL. When the installation is complete, a new folder object called "Group Folder" will appear on your desktop. Double-click the Group Folder and select "Create standard groups" from the menu bar's Folder pulldown to create an example set of groups based on the objects included with OS/2. UPGRADING TO NEW VERSIONS OF THE GROUP FOLDER: The GFOLDER.DLL cannot be replaced while it is in use by the Workplace Shell. A simple way around this problem is to add the line below: CALL=C:\OS2\CMD.EXE to the top of your CONFIG.SYS file and reboot. A full screen session will be started before the Workplace Shell is started. Copy the new GFOLDER.DLL over the old and then EXIT to continue booting. Remember to remove (or comment out using REM) the line above in your CONFIG.SYS. ALSO INCLUDE IN THIS PACKAGE: Included with the package is GFOLDER.CMD. GFOLDER.CMD is the REXX equivalent of the installation utility GFINST.EXE. It shows how the REXX API can be used to create and modify the groups of GFolder. See "Programming API" in GFolder's online help for more details.
