A note about the future of ecsoft2.org

ecsoft2.org runs on software (Drupal 7 and PHP 7.4) that reached its end of life years ago and no longer receives security updates. Keeping the site online safely is getting harder.

Giving it a future means migrating it to a current platform — and that is only worth doing if people still use it and want to help keep it alive.

If you care about ecsoft2.org, as a user, a contributor, or someone willing to lend a hand, please ggambatiscali [dot] it (get in touch) by January 31, 2027.

If no one comes forward by then, the site will be turned into a read-only archive, so that its content stays available.

XZ Utils is free general-purpose data compression software with high compression ratio: compress a file about 30% smaller than gzip.

This software is distributed in two modes:

as compressed package that you have to download and manually install; if prerequisites are required, you will have to manually install them too;
as RPM package; you can install it using your favorite rpm package manager, that will take care to download and install both the software and its prerequisites.

Choose the installation mode that you prefer. Please note that not all the versions are available in both the installation modes.

Installation with rpm

This program is installable using the rpm package manager. See below for the install string. Required prerequisites are automatically processed by the package manager and, if needed, downloaded and installed.

XZ Utils Release Notes ====================== 5.4.6 (2024-01-26) * Fixed a bug involving internal function pointers in liblzma not being initialized to NULL. The bug can only be triggered if lzma_filters_update() is called on a LZMA1 encoder, so it does not affect xz or any application known to us that uses liblzma. * xz: - Fixed a regression introduced in 5.4.2 that caused encoding in the raw format to unnecessarily fail if --suffix was not used. For instance, the following command no longer reports that --suffix must be used: echo foo | xz --format=raw --lzma2 | wc -c - Fixed an issue on MinGW-w64 builds that prevented reading from or writing to non-terminal character devices like NUL. * Added a new test.

Program is distributed as ZIP package: download to temporary directory and unpack to destination folder, better if in PATH. See below for download link(s).

Such an empty Block with LZMA2 data would trigger a bug in 5.0.1 and older (see the first bullet point in 5.0.2 notes). When releasing 5.0.2, I thought that no encoder creates this kind of files but I was wrong. - Validate function arguments better in a few functions. Most importantly, specifying an unsupported integrity check to lzma_stream_buffer_encode() no longer creates a corrupt .xz file.
