Manual installation

Program is distributed as ZIP package: download to temporary directory and unpack to destination folder. See below for download link(s).

Quickstart note by Bernd (from Usenet):

  • setup your syslogd if not done before
  • create a file named "random" and fill it with some garbage keyboard input (about 250 chars)
  • in \bind9\sbin: "rndc-confgen.exe -a -r random" to create the keyfile
  • create/edit config files
  • to start the server: "named -f", to stop the server: "rndc.exe stop"

You can install the prerequisites with rpm running the following string in a command line:

yum install libc libcx libgcc1 libssp libstdc++6 libstdc++ libsupc++6 libsupc++ libgcc-fwd

ISC Bind v. 9.18.42 (14/4/2026, Andrey Vasilkin) Readme/What's new
The configuration is read from the file /usr/local/etc/named.conf. This can be changed using the -c command-line switch. The required libuv library distributed through the netlabs repository (version 1.44.3) has critical flaws. Therefore, I built 1.44.2 available from Bbitwise Works on GitHub. The uv1.dll file is included in this archive. You can run named from the included run.cmd file to avoid using the already installed uv1.dll file: >run.cmd -c named.conf --- Andrey Vasilkin, 2026 http://os2.snc.ru/
