WorkPlaceCalendar v. 0.93 (17/8/2026, Frank Wochatz) Readme/What's new
=============================================================================== WorkPlaceCalendar v0.93 =============================================================================== WorkPlaceCalendar is a lightweight OS/2 REXX utility that creates dynamic Workplace Shell (WPS) desktop objects displaying a formatted month calendar directly beneath the icon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. USAGE & COMMANDS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Single Month Calendar (WPCalendar.cmd): Run 'WPCalendar.cmd' without any parameters to create a calendar object for the current month on your desktop. - To refresh the calendar on a new day, simply double-click the object. - Tip: Place a Shadow of this object in your Startup Folder (<WP_START>) to automatically update the calendar at system boot. * Full Year Calendar (WPYear.cmd): Run 'WPYear.cmd' to create a desktop folder containing 12 individual month objects for a full year. - Syntax: WPYear.cmd [YYYY] (e.g., WPYear.cmd 2026) - Omitting the parameter automatically builds the calendar for the current year. Be sure to set "Always maintain sort order" off (folder setting of XWP) * Show Month Calender with previous and next month Edit 'WPCalendar.cmd'. Set build_neighbors = 1 to create objects for the previous and next month beside the single month calendar Run 'WPCalendar.cmd'. To update always use the object/icon with current month calender build_neighbors = 0 turns this feature off. Already created neighbors have to be deleted manually. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. INTEGRATED APPOINTMENTS & NOTES (TERMS) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Opening a month object inside a Year Calendar folder launches a user-definable text editor (configured via 'editprg' in WPCalendar.cmd) associated with a data file. You can add personal notes, terms, and reminders for that month. - Important: Simply save the file using 'Save'. Do NOT change the file name, extension, or target directory ('Save As'). - All term files are stored in the 'TERMS\' subdirectory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. CALENDAR WEEKS & CONFIGURATION (NEW IN v0.9) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 0.9 fully supports standardized week number calculations (KW): * European Standard (ISO 8601 / DIN 1355-1): Monday is set as the first day of the week. Week 1 is defined as the week containing the first Thursday of the year. * US Standard: Sunday is set as the first day of the week. * added a new 3-objects-mode with current, previous and next month calendar Configuration: To switch the start of the week between Monday and Sunday, edit the 'weekstart' variable near the top of 'WPCalendar.cmd': weekstart = 0 /* 0 = Monday (ISO 8601 Standard) */ weekstart = 1 /* 1 = Sunday (US Standard) */ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. RECOMMENDED FONT SETTINGS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For optimal visual display of the calendar grid, set the font of the desktop/folder where the object resides to a monospaced (non-proportional) font (e.g., "10.System VIO"). Using proportional fonts will distort the alignment of the text table. (Note: 'WarpSans' is proportional but provides acceptable results). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NOTE FOR eComStation / ArcaOS TRASHCAN USERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you delete WPCalendar objects while using eCS Trashcan or similar desktop protection tools, objects are moved to the Trashcan rather than permanently destroyed. If you run a WPCalendar script again after deleting an object, no new icon will appear on your desktop, the script will update the deleted object sitting inside the Trashcan instead. If objects seem to be "missing" after running the script, empty your Trashcan or permanently delete the old calendar objects first. =============================================================================== Frank Wochatz <mail@subsys.de> Berlin, 17.
