TiMidity plays MIDI and Module (.MOD) files. It does it in software without depending on any hardware MIDI support your soundcard might have. Sound quality can be much higher because it limited by your CPU's power and memory rather then your soundcard's power and memory. You can not use TiMidity MCD with CW-Multimedia Classes: the WPS will hang when clicking on a MID file.

The progect is now developed by Alex Taylor and, when right configured, allows to play MIDI files direct from the WPS in eComStation which use a special edition of the CW-Mulitmedia Classes.

This software is distributed as compressed package. You have to download and manually install it; if prerequisites are required, you will have to manually install them too.

Manual installation

Available both as ZIP and WarpIN package:

  • download the ZIP package to temporary directory and install via MINSTALL.EXE (if Multimedia install crashes with a SYS3175 try again, but move the window part way off the screen before pressing the Install button). Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and add the following line:
    SET TIMIDITYDIR=path
where path is the location where you uncompressed the archive into. Reboot and open Multimedia Setup; if installation is successful you should now find a new "TiMidity" tab. You can now set TiMidity as the default sequencer (sequencer basically means MIDI player) by checking the "Default Sequencer device" checkbox. Add associations for the MIDI type and add the extensions MID, MOD, S3M, XM and any other extension that you have for MOD files. Reboot.
  • Alex Taylor's port is a WarpIN self-installing package.
  • Eric A. Welsh's patches are a collection of high-quality voice sample files in GUS/patch format.
