emsFS.IFS uses memory above 4 GB to create a ramdisk, accessing this memory through PSE36 instead of PAE. It maps a 4 MB pages above 4 GB limit to a 4 MB window below the 4 GB limit, without switching PAE on/off and copying data. PSE36 is enabled permanently, and no copying is done, only mapping.

Being based on ramfs.ifs it has all its benefits, like absence of block layer and caching overhead.

This software is distributed as compressed package. You have to download and manually install it; if prerequisites are required, you will have to manually install them too.

Manual installation

Program is distributed as ZIP package: download to temporary directory, unpack the .ifs file to C:\OS2\BOOT and the .exe file to C:\OS2 directories and add IFS=C:\OS2\BOOT\emsFS.IFS line to CONFIG.SYS. See below for download link(s).

You can create a virtual driver at boot time, adding a line like this to CONFIG.SYS file:

CALL=C:\OS2\CMD.EXE /Q /C C:\SetVirtDsk.CMD

with the above cmd file containing the following commands:

emsdisk.exe V: VDISK
md V:\TEMP
