A note about the future of ecsoft2.org

ecsoft2.org runs on software (Drupal 7 and PHP 7.4) that reached its end of life years ago and no longer receives security updates. Keeping the site online safely is getting harder.

Giving it a future means migrating it to a current platform — and that is only worth doing if people still use it and want to help keep it alive.

If you care about ecsoft2.org, as a user, a contributor, or someone willing to lend a hand, please ggambatiscali [dot] it (get in touch) by January 31, 2027.

If no one comes forward by then, the site will be turned into a read-only archive, so that its content stays available.

This Utility analyzes, copies or modifies all frames of MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-2.5 audio files compressed with Layer I, II or III.

Analysis

general information, like length or ID3v1 tags
detailed information about all frame headers (optional)
summary information about the frame headers, like VBR or MS-stereo distribution
frame consistency checks

Copy

You may copy an entire file or parts of it to a new file.

Modification

The gain (volume) may be modified. This is lossless. It is implemented by modifying all side info blocks or the scalefactors respectively of the file. This restricts the step size to 1.5 dB for layer III files and 2 dB for layer I and II files.
Furthermore files may be stripped. This means that leading and trailing silence (empty frames) is removed.
You may also use your own cut points by time or frame.

This software is distributed as compressed package. You have to download and manually install it; if prerequisites are required, you will have to manually install them too.

Manual installation

Program is distributed as ZIP package: download to temporary directory and unpack to destination folder. See below for download link(s).

Following is a list of prerequisites that you have to manually install in order to have the program working:

You can install the prerequisites with rpm running the following string in a command line:

yum install libc libcx libgcc1 libssp libstdc++6 libstdc++ libsupc++6 libsupc++ libgcc-fwd
