Angled folder icons for DeScribe 5 v. 5.0 (18/5/2014, David Graser) Readme/What's new
First, David Graser deserves any credit for these, as all I did was take his "blank" folder icons from new_ecs_angled_folder_icons_release5.zip and use ICONEDIT.EXE to scribble in the "D" as it appeared in the original DeScribe folder icon. I tweaked the color a bit, and repeated the process for the open view of the folder. Don't ask me why I did this. I was bored, my eyes hurt from too much screen reading, and big blocks of color seemed soothing at the time. :-) Enjoy, and remember to drop David a note of thanks for all of his beautiful artwork for OS/2 and eCS over the years.

Replacement Calendar macro for DeScribe 5.0 The original DeScribe 5 Calendar macro was broken by Y2K. I modified it and now it works with all years from 1950 to 2049. I suspect someone smarter than I could come up with one that will work with all years. Mark Davis

DeScribe for OS/2 v. 4.0 (14/12/1993, DeScribe Inc.) Readme/What's new
*** This is the installation for the 32-bit OS/2 version of DeScribe *** To install the OS/2 version run the SETUP program: From a full screen or windowed command prompt: Type "A:SETUP" to run the installation program. From the desktop: Double-click on the icon for the floppy disk drive (e.g. A:). Then, double-click on the SETUP.EXE program. Use the mouse to select an installation option from the menu. If you don't have a mouse, press and release the ALT key to switch to the action bar. Then type "O" to bring down the Options menu. Then type a mnemonic letter to select the installation option. Select "Install DeScribe" to install some or all of the DeScribe files. Select "Delete DeScribe" to delete some or all of the DeScribe files. Select "Exit Installation" to stop the installation program. When you select Install, the program displays a dialog with check boxes for features to install. To enable or disable a feature, click on the name with the mouse. If you don't have a mouse, use the up/down arrow keys to highlight the feature and press the space bar. If you choose to install the text import/export libraries, the program displays a dialog which lists all the available formats. Select one or more formats from the list and click OK, or click All to install all of them. The program also prompts you for the destination directory (typically C:\DeScribe). You can change the directory if you wish. The program checks to see that you have sufficient space on the destination disk before proceeding with the installation. If there is not enough space, the program displays a dialog which tells you how much space you need and asks you if you want to proceed anyway. The program places the DeScribe.exe file in the destination directory. It also creates several subdirectories. Data Directory for your documents DLL Assorted dynamic link libraries Icons Directory for custom icon files Inset Files needed for graphics conversion library Help Directory for custom help files Layouts Directory for layout files LLS Files needed for spell check, thesaurus, etc. Macros Directory for macros Temp Directory for temporary files Tutorial Tutorial files UsrDicts Directory for user dictionaries W4W Files needed for text conversion library DeScribe creates temporary disk files when it is running. By default, these files are placed in the Temp directory. The DeScribe.exe file, as well as the files in the DLL, LLS, Inset and W4W directories are read-only. They are not modified by DeScribe. The files in the Layouts, Data, Macros, Temp and UsrDicts directories may be modified by DeScribe as a result of user actions. DeScribe expects to find the DLL, Inset and W4W subdirectories in the same directory as the DeScribe.exe file. The program also creates a file DWP40.dat and places in in the same directory as the other system .INI files. On OS/2 systems this is usually the C:\OS2 directory. The file contains preference and configuration information used by DeScribe. This file may be modified at any time. DeScribe creates a file DWP40.bmp in the same directory as the DWP40.dat file. This bitmap file contains an image of the startup logo and is automatically created the first time you run DeScribe. Having the logo in a bitmap reduces the startup time the next time you run DeScribe. After the installation of the program has completed, you will find a document in the Data directory called "Sample". You may want to print this document to test the capabilities of your printer.

SmartQuotes macro for DeScribe v. 4.0 (16/10/1993) Readme/What's new
Well, I wrote these two little macros because I missed the smartquotes macro offered in Word for Windows 2.0. I also found the typographic quotes offered by DeScribe to be a little depressing. So I wrote these macros. Enclosed are the two macro files and as well as the font that this macro needs to work. Basically, the macro "AutoSingle" will determine if you need a left or right single typographic quote and insert it while the "AutoQuote" will determine the same for regular quotes. So I offer these two macros to the public domain to see if someone else finds them as useful as I do and for someone who does not want to bother learning the Macro language. I downloaded the dingbats font from ftp-os2.cdrom.com and used "Pfm2Afm" to convert it. There was no mention of the font being shareware in the file so I must assume that the font is also freeware. WARNING I give no guarantees with this macro. While it works fine for me, it has not been tested for all situtations, and therefore could eat your life's work for all I know (although I doubt it). Don't bother suing me because you won't get much. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Now that cheery stuff is out of the way... INSTALLATION First, install the dingbats font included in this zip. 1) open the System Setup menu and then open the Font Palette 2) click on edit font 3) click on add font 4) type in the directory name where this unzipped is located 5) select "dingbats" and click on "OK" 6) close all windows 7) copy the files "AutoSingle" and "AutoQuotes" to the directory /DeScribe/Macros (or whatever you have renamed your Macros directory to) 8) then just run the macros when you need a quote I personally used the keyboard manager to set Alt-Ctrl-' (the quote key) to run the AutoQuote and Alt-' (again, the quote thing) to run the AutoSingle macro. Of course, if you find a better method... If you have any questions, comments or especially suggestions on how to improve this macro, please e-mail me. My address is dregeczi@sfu.ca. Hope you enjoy!

Describe 4.0 macros to convert endnotes to footnotes v. 4.0 (1/4/1993, Steve Weeks) Readme/What's new
These macros are for DeScribe 4.0 for OS/2 2.0. They are used to convert endnotes to footnotes automatically. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The FTNOTE.ZIP file contains the following 15 files: README.1st (this file) FOOTNOTE.DOC (instructions for use of the footnote macros) INSTALL.FTN (a macro that, when run, loads and compiles all the following macros) FOOTSTRT FOOTNOTE FOOTTYPE FOOTCHK FOOTLINE FOOTLIST FOOTJTRF FOOTJTFR FOOTJFWD FOOTJBCK FOOTSHOW FOOTHIDE Copy all the files above to the \DESCRIBE\MACROS subdirectory (README.1st is not necessary though) The INSTALL.FTN macro will load them, compile them, save them, load FOOTNOTE.DOC and save it to \DESCRIBE\DATA and then delete the copy of FOOTNOTE.DOC you copied to the \MACROS subdirectory. Disclaimer: I have tested these macros quite a bit. They are not perfect (yet) but I don't think there's any way they could delete any of the text in any document you are working on. Make sure you read the FOOTNOTE.DOC though. The Snapshot file that DeScribe creates to keep track of your key strokes can get quite large during repeated use of the macro if you don't save the document periodically. I hope you find it (them) useful. Any comments (good or "constructive criticism") you'd care to send me would be appreciated. I'll continue to improve them, particularly in several areas: Speed: It can be kind of a drag on a slower PC, especially on huge documents. Intelligence: I plan to add some routines that will determine the best approach to take to get all footnotes correctly placed. I am on Prodigy quite a bit in the Computer Club (DXHP81A) My CompuServe ID is 70541,646 but I'm not there very much. Steve Weeks 12508 Queensbury Ct., Woodbridge, VA 22192 (703) 494-3506 I'd especially like to hear of any bugs that turn up. I'm sure there are some things I have not considered, especially how other people may have their units of measurement and page sizes set up. Things like that.

DeScribe for OS/2 v. 4.0 (23/3/1993) Readme/What's new
*** This is the installation for the 32-bit OS/2 version of DeScribe *** To install the OS/2 version run the SETUP program: From a full screen or windowed command prompt: Type "A:SETUP" to run the installation program.

DeScribe for OS/2 v. 3.0 (Beta, 26/7/1991) Readme/What's new
DeScribe can run on OS/2 and Windows systems: To install the OS/2 version run the OS2 program on DISK 1. From the File Manager: Double-click on the disk drive icon next to A: to get a list of the directories on that drive. Then double-click on the text "A:\" in the Directory Tree window to get a list of files. Double-click on OS2.EXE to run the installation program. From a full screen or windowed command prompt: Type "A:OS2" to run the installation program. To install the Windows version run the WIN program on DISK 1. Select File/Run... from the Program Manager, and type "A:WIN" in the dialog. When you select an installation option, the program asks you to choose an installation type. The three types are: stand alone, LAN server, and LAN workstation. Choose one and click OK. (The LAN server choice is not available on Windows systems.) Next, the program displays a dialog with check boxes for features to install. Data Directory for your documents DLL Assorted dynamic link libraries Docs Tutorial files Inset Files needed for graphics conversion library Layouts Directory for layout files LLS Files needed for spell check, thesaurus, etc. Macros Directory for macros Temp Directory for temporary files UsrDicts Directory for user dictionaries W4W Files needed for text conversion library DeScribe creates temporary disk files when it is running. By default, these files are placed in the Temp directory. You can have these files created in some other directory by adding the following line to your CONFIG.SYS file: SET TMP=... where "..." is replaced by the desired drive designation and path. For example, SET TMP=D:\JUNK would instruct DeScribe to create the temporary files on the D: drive in the directory JUNK. DeScribe expects to find the DLL, LLS, Inset and W4W subdirectories in the same directory as the DeScribe.exe file. If you move the .EXE file, you should probably also move these other directories. The LLS files may be moved to another location if desired. In this case you should add a line to your CONFIG.SYS file like this: SET LLS=... where "..." is replaced by the drive designation and path where you placed the LLS directory. The program also creates a file DeScribe.dat and places in in the same directory as the other system .INI files. On OS/2 systems this is usually the C:\OS2 directory. On Windows systems this is usually the C:\Windows directory. The file contains preference and configuration information used by DeScribe. This file may be modified by DeScribe at any time. After the installation of the program has completed, you will find a document in the Data directory called "Sample". You may want to print this document to test the capabilities of your printer.
