WarpZip v. 3.5 (8/1/2002, Pillarsoft) Readme/What's new
WarpZip Update History Version 3.4 - 4/25/2001 - Added support for viewing and extracting individual files from WPI archives. WarpZip Version 3.5 ─────────────── [Sections] 1) Installation Notes 2) Adding Rar, Lzh, Arj and Tgz Support 3) Adding Wpi Support 4) Uninstalling Warpzip 5) Installing Wzprep (download Preprocessor) 6) Other Notes INSTALLATION NOTES ────────────────── WarpZip comes in an archive that is also a self-extracting installer. The installer will query you for an installation directory and the dll and help file locations. When choosing a location for the dlls and help files, you will be presented with a listbox filled with presently used dll and help file locations. If you choose one of these locations for both items, the config.sys will NOT have to be modified. Perhaps now is the time to consolidate all those smaller apps dlls and helps into one set of directories so programs like this don't have to add to your config.sys. (see "Installation Suggestions" in the program help file) Because WarpZip is self-extracting and self-cleaning you will not be able to install it into the same directory it is running in. If you wish to install into the directory you started this program from you'll need to dismiss this window, "Exit" the installation and move the archive to another directory before restarting it again. WarpZip uses InfoZip's Unzip32.dll file for unzipping archives. Make sure you have the latest version of Zip.exe and Unzipsfx.exe installed on your system if you want to add to or build any new archives. We try to keep the latest version available at the PillarSoft website or a link to their home at cdrom.com. A moot point since it is self installing but... If for any reason, you want to install WarpZip manually, you can: Run the quick and dirty "rebuild.cmd" to make the desktop object. Make sure the dll's are in a directory listed in the LIBPATH statement or add their location to LIBPATH. Make sure the help file is in a directory listed in the SET HELP statement or add its' location to SET HELP. ADDING RAR, LZH, ARJ AND TGZ SUPPORT ─────────────────────────────────── 1) Install WarpZip 2) Download http://www.pillarsoft.net/pub/archiver.zip from our website 3) Start WarpZip and open the downloaded "archiver.zip" 4) In WarpZip's directory container, locate the directory WarpZip was installed into. 5) Highlight the unrar.exe, lha.exe, arj.exe and untgzos2.exe files. 6) Drag the highlighted files to the directory container and drop them on the WarpZip installed directory. 7) Restart WarpZip and try them out! In order to distribute these archiver binaries, we need to try to remain legal and still determine the best way to get them to the user in the easiest possible fashion. Some of them are freeware and we may be able to distribute the binary only but until that is determined we will err on the side of safety. This makes the "Archive.zip" file approximately a 1 meg download but we hope to change that in the future. Keep in mind that only extracting and viewing these archive formats is included. To build archives in these formats please see the help and license information in each of their respective archives. ADDING WPI SUPPORT ─────────────────── WarpIn has a new archive format with a .wpi extension. To view WPI archives you need to have WarpIn installed properly on your system. WarpZip will automatically find the files it needs to view WPI archives. WPI archives may have more than one "package" (an archive within an archive) in each archive. By default, WarpZip opens the #1 package when a WPI file is opened. To open a different package from the archive, you must reload it and a dialog will give you a choice of package number to open. To build WPI archives, please use the proper tools from Netlabs. UNINSTALLING WARPZIP ──────────────────── The installation program builds a script that will delete all the files (even if they were installed to different directories) and remove the desktop object automatically. It will remove the directory also if it is run from a command line. If you've chosen to change the config.sys file, you will have to delete the additions manually. We may add that feature in the future. INSTALLING WZPREP (Download Preprocessor) ───────────────────────────────────── After installing WarpZip, open the help file and locate the "General Help" section, then choose "Download Preprocessor" and scroll to the bottom of the page for instructions on setting up Netscape to use WZPrep as a helper application. OTHER NOTES ───────────── If WarpZip does not want to start because of a problem reading a certain drive, you can use the "/D" swith to turn off reading of any particular drive. For example: If I wanted to stop WarpZip from reading the "H" and "J" drives, the command would be: WarpZip /D HJ After startup be sure to fill in the "Drives" setting in the settings notebook with the drives you wish to avoid. Most users will probably want to have WarpZip skip looking for floppy, zip, cd or network drives. WarpZip works best on an HPFS formatted drive. There are still a couple of issues with installation on FAT drives, namely, viewing files that are archived in subdirectories. Be sure to set all the parameters in the settings notebook! And set the "Download settings..." if you want to use the Download Preprocessor with any browser or ftp program. ────────────────────────── The latest version is always at: http://www.pillarsoft.net email: support@pillarsoft.net
