This is a year 2000 package that contains the updates
require to OS/2 TCP/IP to make it year 2000 compliant.
The applications that required changes for Year 2000
compliance are:
FTP Server, NewsReader/2, Syslogd (part of TCPUNX.DLL),
and Tcpcoex.exe.
NOTE: Before replacing the current versions of the executables/dlls
provided in this package, please verify that the dates are
later than the versions on your system. If they are not, then the
version you have should already contain the Year 2000 updates
because the fixes are cumulative, in which case you should NOT
replace the versions on your system.
The file v40y2k.exe is a self extracting zip file that contains
all of the changed files. To unzip in the current directory, type
v40y2k .

Apar IC19683 and Apar IC21102 change the FTPD component of TCP/IP v4.0 to
be Year 2000 compliant.

IC15250 - Provides DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) support
for the LPR print function. Also, NLS translation problems
were fixed that prevented translated messages from being
displayed. ( lpd.exe, lpq.exe, lpr.exe, lprm.exe, lprmon.exe,
lprportd.exe, lpr32.dll, lprpdrvr.pdr)
IC15541 - When starting LPRPORTD from the command line on a pristine
installed system, the error message "LPR 32.DLL failed to
initialize, RC=-20021" is displayed. (lpd.exe, lpq.exe,
lpr.exe, lprm.exe, lprmon.exe, lprportd.exe, lpr32.dll)
IC15961 - When a customer opens the printer object and then opens the
PIPE/LPD port settings, the PMSHELL grabs the port driver
making it impossible for another process to print thereby
locking the print jobs. If you do try to print, the spooler
will either trap or hang the print job. (lprpdrvr.pdr)
IC15980 - The LPRPORTD.EXE process can trap when two jobs are
printing at the same time in two different printer queues each
configured to output to a different \PIPE\LPDx pipe. It will
not trap every print job, but it will trap. In our tests, it
traps within 10 minutes of IPL with a nominal load.

IC16515 - SYS3175 with access violation in SETLOC1.DLL when
LPRPORTD tries to access a printer that is turned off or
unavailable.(lpr32.dll)
IC17330 - Printing of files using LPRPORTD.EXE takes excessive
amounts of time. A 300K file takes between 5.0 to 6.5
minutes to print. This is due to the fact that writes
to the named pipe are occurring in 1K blocks and at 1.0
sec cycle increments. (lprportd.exe)
IC17379 - When customer attempts to send a very large print job to
the server using LPR on the client, the lpd window
will fail with a SYS3175 error. The register contents
show TNLS16.DLL as the failing module. They are able
to LPR small print jobs, but when the jobs get very large,
such as 100MB, they get this failure every time. (lpd.exe,
tnls16.dll)
IC17590 - Customer has 14 printers and 14 print queues on print
server. Customer is limited to accessing only ports
(721 - 731) at one time. The customer sees a 3 minute
delay on the additional 4 queues after the print jobs
are complete on the first 10 queues. (lpr32.dll)
IC18395 - Incorrect messages received for lprportd, lpr,lpq,
lprm and lprmon commands. This happens on translated
messages.
IC18816 - Port limitation (721-731) when using ip for printing
causes severe backlog of print jobs on large networks.
IC18841 - LPRPORTD hang when printer is ready and there is a job in the
print queue (LPRPORTD running on print server).
Note: This fix is important for customers who run LPRPORTD
on a print server machine. As part of this fix a new -s option
is introduced on LPRPORTD. This indicates that LPRPORTD is
being run on a print server. With the -s option, a keepalive
interval is set for connections started by LPRPORTD. To
be beneficial, the customer should also set the keepalive
interval to 2 or 3 minutes using the inetcfg command.
(e.g. inetcfg keepalive=2 or 3).
This allows TCP to monitor idle connections every 2 to 3
minutes and insure they are still alive or close the connection.
IC18869 - SYS3175 trap in TNLS16.DLL running LPD -cp none specified
trying to print a text with graphics file.

Description:

This directory contains self-extracting zip files containg replacement
modules for the tcp/ip stack and stack utilities for "OS/2 Warp V4,
TCP/IP V4.0", component id 5639B1700, R510.
Also, customers who have installed Comm Server MPTS or MPTS WR08415 on
their Warp Connect or Warp Server system should update their tcp/ip
stack using the files in this directory.
LATEST40.EXE has the most recent service to the tcp/ip stack. It contains
a complete set of the latest tcp/ip stack .sys and .dll files. All these
files are packaged together, whether or not they were changed by this apar,
because a compatible set of stack files is required for the correct operation
of tcp/ip on your workstation.
Prerequisites:
--------------
You must have either the fix for APAR IC16063 or MPTS FixPak WR08415 installed
before installing LATEST40.EXE.
IC16063.EXE, which is also contained in this directory for your convenience,
contains an earlier version of the stack files, superceded by LATEST40.EXE,
and additional serviced tcp/ip stack utilities which are not considered part of the
stack but are part of of tcp/ip on your system.
MPTS FixPak WR08415 is a "controlled release" FixPak. It also contains an
earlier version of the stack files, with more recent APAR fixes than IC16063,
but still superceded by LATEST40.EXE, and the serviced stack utilities. The
FixPak also contains replacements for many other modules that are part of MPTS.
This FixPak may be obtained either electronically or on 3.5" diskette by
contacting Software Solutions Services at 1-800-992-4777.
All tcp/ip stack service is cumulative. The READ.ME file in LATEST40.EXE
contains a complete list of tcp/ip stack apars that have been fixed in
LATEST40.EXE since OS/2 Warp V4 GA.
Directions:

Have you already installed IC16063.EXE or MPTS FixPak WR08415 on your system?
If you don't know, you can issue the following command:
INETVER
If the output is:
Inet Version: 4.00e
you haven't applied any service to the tcp/ip stack yet.
If you decide to install MPTS FixPak WR08415, call Software Solutions
Services and follow their directions to install the FixPak. Then install
LATEST40.EXE as described below under "If you HAVE already installed IC16063
or MPTS FixPak WR08415 on your Warp system........"
If you decide to install IC16063, go to the section below beginning with
"If you HAVE NOT yet installed IC16063.EXE ..."

If you get to this point, you HAVE installed tcp/ip stack service before since
the output of INETVER is not "4.00e". You can proceed to "If you HAVE already
installed IC16063 or MPTS FixPak WR08415 on your Warp system........" to
install LATEST40.EXE.
If you want, you can determine if you have installed MPTS FixPak WR08415
by issuing the following command:

system, then you only need to install the files in LATEST40.EXE to get the
latest service level of the tcp/ip stack. Do the following:
You should create a temporary directory, copy LATEST40.EXE into the
directory, and unzip the stack files by entering:
LATEST40 .
Note that the '.' is important because it will unzip all the files into the
current path. No subdirectories are created.
Once this is done, see READ.ME (unzipped from LATEST40.EXE) for complete
installation directions.

If you HAVE NOT yet installed IC16063.EXE on your Warp V4 system, then
do the following:
You should create a temporary directory, copy LATEST40.EXE and IC16063.EXE
into the directory, and unzip the files by entering the following, in
sequence:
IC16063 .
LATEST40 .
Note that the order of issuing the IC16063 and LATEST40 commands is
important! By issuing LATEST40 after IC16063, the more recent stack files
in LATEST40.EXE will replace the older files in IC16063.EXE.
Note that the '.' is important because it will unzip all the files into the
current path. No subdirectories are created.
Once this is done, see INSTALL.DOC for installation directions. READ.ME
(unzipped from LATEST40.EXE) contains installation instructions and
updated stack information for LATEST40.EXE.

Description:
------------
This package provides replacement modules for the V4.0 tcp/ip
stack and DLL's.
Prerequisites:
-------------
You must have one of the following installed on your system:
- TCP/IP V4.0 and MPTS from OS/2 Warp Version 4, component id 5639B1700,
R510.
- Warp Connect or Warp Server with either or both of the following:
- the MPTS from Comm Server
- the MPTS from Warp Server SMP client (NOT Warp Server SMP server)
- MPTS FixPak WRx8421 (superceded WRx8415)
You must also have one of the following installed:
- MPTS FixPak WRx8421
- The fix for IC16063
Pre-Installation Instruction:
----------------------------
The following must be done one time only to avoid tcp/ip problems:
If the file c:\tcpip\archive\dll\tcpipdll.dll exists, please erase it.
(Substitute the drive letter on which \TCPIP\ is installed for "c:")
This is a downlevel DLL which may replace the current DLL.
Installation instructions:
--------------------------
1. You should create a temporary directory and decompress (unzip) LATEST40.EXE
into it. Enter the following:
LATEST40 .
No subdirectories are created.
2. Since some of the files are locked by the system (the DLL's), to replace
them you must now perform a shutdown of your OS/2 system.
The directions below will walk you thru the procedure for replacing
these files.
3. Reboot your system.
4. As soon as your system begins to boot, and you see the OS2 with a small
white block in the upper left corner of your screen, depress the ALT key and
the F1 key at the same time (ALT-F1).
5. The Recovery Choices screen should be displayed. Press F2 to
get a command prompt.
6. Your system will now continue to boot, and should complete with an [X:\]
prompt, where "X" is your boot drive.
7. Change to the drive and temporary directory in which you unzipped the
LATEST40.EXE file.
8. The files listed in this directory should replace ANY EXISTING FILES of
the same name currently on your system. DO NOT create a subdirectory for
these files and simply place it in your PATH in CONFIG.SYS. If you do,
it will create multiple copies of DLL'S, and EXE's etc, which could cause
erratic behavior of your system.
9. Place the files in directories as listed in the "Contents" section below.
Note that "y:" is the drive on which MPTN was installed, and "x:" is
the drive on which TCP/IP was installed (x: and y: are usually the same).
10. Reboot your system. You can use Ctrl-Alt-Del.
11. Your system should now start normally and all file changes will be in
effect.
12. When your system has completed startup, you can verify that the new
TCP/IP stack is running by issuing the following command from an OS/2
command prompt:
INETVER

OS/2 TCP/IP V4.0 STACK, STACK APPS - SERVICE UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS
RELEASES, CONSOLIDATION WITH COMM SERVER STACK
Description:
------------
This package provides replacement modules for the OS/2 Warp V4, TCP/IP V4.0
stack, DLL's, and stack applications. This is a consolidation of service
fixes to Warp Connect and Warp Server, forward-fitted to OS/2 Warp V4 TCP/IP,
since GA (see below for the list of APARs).
Also, the OS/2 Warp V4 TCP/IP stack was consolidated with the TCP/IP stack
for Comm Server V4.1.
Installation instructions:
--------------------------
You must have the following installed on your system:
- TCP/IP V4.0 and MPTN from OS/2 Warp Version 4, component id 5639B1700,
R510.
1. You should create a temporary directory and decompress (unzip) IC16063.EXE
into it. Enter the following:
IC16063 .
No subdirectories are created.
2. Since some of the files are locked by the system (the DLL's), to replace
them you must now perform a shutdown of your OS/2 system.
The directions below will walk you thru the procedure for replacing
these files.
3. Reboot your system.
4. As soon as your system begins to boot, and you see the OS2 with a small
white block in the upper left corner of your screen, depress the ALT key and
the F1 key at the same time (ALT-F1).
5. The Recovery Choices screen should be displayed. Press F2 to
get a command prompt.
6. Your system will now continue to boot, and should complete with an [X:\]
prompt, where "X" is your boot drive.
7. Change to the drive and temporary directory in which you unzipped the
IC16063.EXE file.
8. The files listed in this directory should replace ANY EXISTING FILES of
the same name currently on your system. DO NOT create a subdirectory for
these files and simply place it in your PATH in CONFIG.SYS. If you do,
it will create multiple copies of DLL'S, and EXE's etc, which could cause
erratic behavior of your operating system.
9. Place the files in directories as listed in the "Contents" section below.
Note that "y:" is the drive on which MPTN was installed, "x:" is the
drive on which TCPIP was installed, and "z:" is the OS/2 boot drive.
10. Reboot your system. You can use Ctrl-Alt-Del.
11. Your system should now start normally and all file changes will be in
effect.
12. When your system has completed startup, you can verify that the new
TCP/IP stack is running by issuing the following command from an OS/2
command prompt:
INETVER
The following should be displayed:

Apar IC19029 contains an update to REXECD.EXE.
It contains the following exe:
REXECD.EXE
To execute replace REXECD.EXE in the TCPIP\BIN directory. Be sure
to backup the original.
Description:
Development APAR that updates the REXEC server (REXECD) with support
for the TME 10 Framework for OS/2 product. This support includes:
- Function to detect if the OS/2 installable security subsysyem is available.
If available, REXECD will utilize the security APIs within the subsystem to
authenticate client's attempting to issue commands. If the security
subsystem is not available, then REXECD will default to using it's
traditional method of authentication.
- Quiet mode support that will prevent any additional client input supplied to
the server from being echoed on the server's console. By default, quiet
mode is off and any additional input supplied by the client IS echoed to
the server's stdout. To utilize quiet mode, specify '-q' as a parameter when
starting REXECD as an isolated server (i.e. not under the control of INETD).
Or, to utilize quiet mode when REXECD is started under INETD, set the
QUIETMODE environment variable to 1 (or any non-null value). The QUIETMODE
variable only works when REXECD is started under INETD. The purpose of
quiet mode is to prevent the displaying of binary input data (sent from the client)
which could result in undesireable beeping on the server.
- REXECD will now support long client commands of 256 bytes or more in length.
- REXECD will now route stderr information produced by a client's command back
to the client over a secondary socket connection dedicated to receiving error
information. Prior to this APAR, stdout and stderr from the client's command were
both routed over the same, primary socket connection.
NOTE TO CUSTOMERS: If you update your REXEC server with this APAR,
back-level REXEC clients will NOT receive any error information that a command
issued to this server may generate. stdout information will still be received.
To correct this, REXEC clients should be at a fix level that includes the changes
made with APAR IC17934. |
