Programmers Editor for OS/2 v. 2.32.18.1 (7/12/2003, Maison Anglais) Readme/What's new
© Peter Koller 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000... All rights reserved. Program Editor Readme File. =========================== This file contains additional info not presently in pmproged.inf. type view pmproged.inf at an *OS/2 command line to read the online help. INDEX ===== i) What's New 1) Extended Attributes 2) Registration 3) Scripts 4) Other Products 5) Trademarks i) What's New ========== 03 March 2000 Re-compiled with bigger stack, enables network printing. 02 June 2000 Updated help information and fixed parser bug that would sometimes unexpectedly delete text. The use of tabs has been enabled. You can switch between using tabs and using spaces for tabs. The editor handles either (almost) transparently. In addition, you can now wrap text on your printer. This version also contains the addition of a spell checker, and an extended character help utility. If you use a foreign language, you can create your own dictionary for the spell check program. Other dictionaries may be published in future. The number of supplied scripts is also slowly growing. An indent() script command has been added to help handle tabs intelligently when using scripts. For information on how Program Editor can be used in a network, see the page on 'Group Working and Networks' in the 'Hints and Tips' section of the online help, as well as the 'Options Menu' section. All installation is now substantially automated. 1) Extended Attributes:- =================== PMPROGED sets EA's for new files. This is essential because it allows you to double click on your text file to run program editor. PMPROGED.EAS can be recreated using *EAUTIL on an empty "Program Edited" file created from a template. The three relevant ea's are .TYPE ("Program Edited"), .CLASSINFO, and .ICON. PMPROGED now uses EA's to retain Jump Markers. (EA name = "MA.JUMPMK") 2) Registration:- ============ All registration should now be made via BMT Micro. BMT Micro PO Box 15016 Wilmington, NC 28408 U.S.A. http://www.bmtmicro.com Please read the file register.doc for further information. 3) Scripts:- ======= For users of versions of Program Editor before V2.10, please note that the script language format has changed to use a more common layout not unlike that used by the programming language C. The script interpreter was lifted bodily from PM Make and is thus well tested. This change makes scripts substantially more reliable and easier to read. Please see the online documentation for further details. You may find some extra undocumented scripts supplied. These are included in case you find them useful. 4) Other Products available:- ======================== PM Make:- PM Make is a programmers make utility that makes use of the *PM interface to provide the necessary functions for project maintenance: >>>> Built in project backup and restore. >>>> User menus defined in the makefile can set compiler, etc., options. >>>> Can include 'global' makefiles as headers. >>>> Can stop on error. >>>> Allows review of error messages. >>>> Force make according to compiler or linker options or make all. >>>> Can make .exe, .hlp, .dll, etc... all in one build. >>>> Background build with 'pop up on error' mode. >>>> Will work in multiple directories. >>>> Fast. >>>> Applicable to any third party compilers, linkers, or other tools. >>>> Can interface with Program Editor when using MAUDE* dll. * The MAUDE dll is supplied with full source code and instructions. This dll allows compiler specific customization of PM Make. Maul Publisher:- >>>> Maul Publisher is the worlds first true desktop publisher for the OS/2 Warp family of operating systems. Highlights include full text justification within any shape, at any angle, with support for a large range of text effects. The same text effects are available when placing text on lines, arcs, or bezier curves. >>>> You can use Bitmaps, Metafiles, Shading backgrounds, and Text, in any shape frame you care to draw. All support rotation, scaling, grouping, and true CYMK colour separation. Metafiles, in particular, offer the opportunity to import business graphics from spreadsheets or databases, amongst many. You can even re-import a maul printout from the printer as a metafile! >>>> Sophisticated page layout mechanisms allow you to correctly number multiple set folding booklet publications, and double sided print them on a standard inkjet. >>>> Maul uses a published file format and programming API toolkit, so that the product can be used for in-house custom requirements, as well as ensuring that Maul will never become obsolete. 5) Trademarks:- ========== *EAUTIL, *OS/2, and *PM (c)IBM * Registered trademarks of International Business Machines Corporation.
