NovaBack+ uses INI files to save program configuration in
between sessions (except TAPEDRV.INI). You should never have to
use (manually edit/change) these files unless directed by NovaStor
Technical Support.
How to Change the Main Menu Bitmaps
-----------------------------------
All NovaStor backup products now allow for the customization
of the two bitmaps on the main screen. You can simply create and
use your own bitmap using Paintbrush (or similiar program that can
edit/create Windows bitmap files). This can be accomplished by
naming your bitmaps DRAGON.BMP to replace the Logo and LOGO.BMP to
replace the NovaStor Logo. The No Panic Logo found in Dr. Tape may
not be altered. Happy Painting!
NovaBoot and Multiple OS Partition Warning
------------------------------------------
The NovaBoot Utility provides for disaster recovery for the active
operating system at the time of backup. It is used to recover
files that are "visible" at the time of backup. Though this may
seem obvious, it is important to know that if you have your
hard disk(s) partitioned to include other operating systems and
files that are not accessible for backup, then these also cannot
be recovered with the use of NovaBoot. In short, NovaBoot does NOT
provide strict image recovery (sector by sector data restoration).
Special Notes
-------------
* EXTENDED ATTRIBUTES (EAs) *
NovaBack+ for OS/2 SCSI automatically backs up the extended
attributes associated with OS/2. No special settings or parameters
need to be defined.
* FILES YOU MAY SEE NOT GETTING BACKED UP *
NET.ACC/NET.AUD:
These files are used by Warp Connect, Warp Version 4, Warp Server
and LAN Server. These files only exist on machines that have either
the Server or Peer-to-Peer networking installed and operational. They
contain the user database (NET.ACC) and the auditing database (NET.AUD).
Since they are open and locked at all times by the networking software,
NovaBack+ cannot back them up. We suggest running the BACKACC utility
prior to performing any full system backup or NovaBoot backup in order
to at least create backups of these files that NovaBack+ can access. See
the OS/2 online documentation on how to use the BACKACC and RESTACC
utilities to backup and restore these two files. If these files do not
get backed up, then you will need to re-create your user database and
auditing from scratch.
_CACHE0.DB/{USER}.DB: (WARP 4 ONLY)
These are the "WarpGuide" datafiles. If you chose not to install
WarpGuide or the Assistance Center during installation, then you need
not worry about these files as they will not exist on your system.
"{USER}" would pertain to your WarpGuide User CheckIn name (i.e. If you
use "JOE" as your CeckIn name, then the file "JOE.DB" will be created).
NovaBack+ cannot back these files while WarpGuide is active. To
de-activate WarpGuide, double-click the "Assistance Center" icon on your
desktop, then right-click on the WarpGuide icon. Choose the "Properties"
option from the menu. The main window has the option "Assist me with
selective tasks". It is here you can temporarily disable WarpGuide and
re-enable it again at a later time (after performing your backup).
NOTE: Performing a full backup that is to be used with NovaBoot
without first disabling the WarpGuide will give a backup set that will
not properly restore the WarpGuide. If this happens, the simple solution
is to just re-install the WarpGuide after your NovaBoot recovery.
SLDB.DMI/LOG????.DAT:
These are files that are used by the "TME 10 NetFinity System
Management Client", or, rather, a subset of this utility package. This
package is an optionally installable component of OS/2 Warp 4 (and
possibly a separately purchased package for other releases of OS/2).
The precise nature of these files is unknown to NovaStor at this time.
NovaBack+ will not be able to back these files as they are open and locked
at all times. The impact on a full system recovery is also unknown.
Please contact IBM (PSP division) for information on how to make these
files available for backup.
A Note of Thanks
