General Installation Notes
The OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk is designed as a supplement
to selected PerfectOffice applications. These applications must
be installed before installing the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools
Disk.
While running the application setup program, no other application
that uses WordPerfect shared code can be running. This includes
the QuickLaunch utility provided with the OS/2 WPS Integration
Tools Disk.
NOTE: WordPerfect 5.x and 6.x for Windows are the only
applications supported by the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk.
Normal Installation Procedure
If you are doing a Standard, Custom, or Minimum installation of
WordPerfect 6.x for Windows, follow the instructions below to
install WordPerfect and the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk to
your system.
1. Insert the WordPerfect 6.x for Windows Install 1 disk
into drive A, double-click the Drive A icon, double-click
the SETUP.EXE icon, then follow the on-screen instructions.
This will install WordPerfect 6.x for Windows on your
system.
2. Insert the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk into drive A,
double-click the Drive A icon, double-click the
SETUPOS2.EXE icon, then follow the on-screen instructions.
This will install the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools onto your
system.
3. Close the Drive A folder, shut down, and re-boot.
NOTE: You may experience a small delay as your system boots
up for the first time after installation because some parts
of the install process are performed after you reboot.
Installing to a Network Server
Follow the instructions below to install WordPerfect and the OS/2
WPS Integration Tools Disk to the network server.
1. Install WordPerfect 6.x for Windows onto the network
server.
2. Run WordPerfect 6.x for Windows from the WPCNET settings
icon in Program Manager.
3. Do a Workstation install of WordPerfect 6.x for Windows.
4. Run SETUPOS2.EXE. It will list both the server and
workstation installations as candidates for install. If
both are checked, both installations will be done at the
same time.
Installing to a Workstation
Follow the instructions below to install WordPerfect and the OS/2
WPS Integration Tools Disk to your workstation.
1. Make sure that the network administrator has already
installed both WordPerfect 6.x for Windows and the OS/2 WPS
Integration Tools Disk to the network server using the
instructions above. Failure to do so will result in a
"Could not find OS2SHCWP._LL" message.
2. Start a full screen, 3.1 Enhanced Win-OS/2 session (see
"Program Settings Screen" below).
3. Select Run from the Program Manager file menu, enter
"<WPWin Directory>\setup", where <WPWin Directory> is the
directory where WordPerfect 6.x is installed on the server
(usually \WPWIN60), then follow the on-screen instructions.
This will create a workstation installation of WordPerfect
6.x for Windows and allow you to run WordPerfect from the
network server.
4. Close the Win-OS/2 session and go to an OS/2 Window
session. Go to the shared code directory on the network
server (usually \WPC20) and run SETUPOS2.EXE. Follow the
on-screen instructions.
This will create a workstation installation of the OS/2 WPS
Integration Tools on your machine.
5. Shut down and reboot.
NOTE: When you reboot for the first time, you will be asked
to log in to the network so that the OS/2 WPS Integration
Tools installation can be completed. Once you log in,
choose OK to complete the installation.
Some Desktop Objects Do Not Get Installed
If some desktop objects were not installed, use the SETUPOS2.EXE
program with the /fixwps option or you can check the "destroy
existing objects..." option in the Options Dialog in
SETUPOS2.EXE.
To use the /fixwps option,
1. Open an OS/2 window, then go to the shared code directory
(usually \WPC20).
2. Type "setupos2 /fixwps".
To use the Destroy existing objects option,
1. Insert the OS/2 WPS Integration Tools Disk into drive A,
double-click the Drive A icon, double-click the
SETUPOS2.EXE icon, then choose Install.
2. Choose Options, Select Destroy existing objects, the choose
OK.
This will destroy and recreate all objects from scratch and
will remove any objects that no longer exist on the hard
disk.
This option works around a known OS/2 problem and has been
reported to IBM.
Choice of Disk Format--Use the FAT File System
When running any Windows application in Win-OS/2 mode under OS/2
version 2.x, it is important to choose a disk format that will
enable that application to run to the best of its ability.
With the FAT file system, all filenames and directory names have
a maximum length of eight characters with a three-character
extension (for example, FILENAME.EXT).
With the HPFS file system, any filename or directory name can be
as long as 254 characters with more than three characters in its
extension.
Any Windows or DOS application you run under OS/2 version 2.x
will only be able to use files with standard DOS filenames (eight
characters with a maximum three-character extension). Any files
with HPFS long names will be hidden from your Windows and DOS
applications, including all files with a long subdirectory name.
For this reason, WordPerfect, the Novell Applications Group,
recommends installing OS/2 to a drive with the FAT file system.
See "Moving Your Desktop from HPFS to FAT" below for more
information.
Moving Your Desktop from HPFS to FAT
You can move your OS/2 desktop from one disk partition to another
without having to re-install the operating system.
1. Make sure you are using OS/2 version 2.1 or later.
2. Double-click the OS/2 System folder, then double-click the
Drives folder.
3. Double-click the disk object where you installed OS/2 (C:
by default).
4. Look for your desktop directory in the tree hierarchy for
that disk. It should be called Desktop or OS!2 2.0 Desktop
and have an office desk icon.
5. Once you find the desktop object, drag it to a FAT disk
partition.
6. While your desktop is moving, do not reboot or open other
objects. Once the move is complete, wait a few seconds
while OS/2 writes all desktop link information back to your
hard disk.
Program Settings Screen
Running WordPerfect 6.x for Windows under OS/2 2.1 requires some
configuration of the WordPerfect Program object's Settings
notebook.
When you use SETUPOS2.EXE to install the WordPerfect Program
folder, these settings are changed automatically.
To change them manually, go to the "Win-OS/2 Settings" dialog on
the "Session" page of the program reference object.
The following table shows the settings changed by SETUPOS2.EXE:
Setting Name Default Setting Suggested Setting
WIN_RUN_MODE 3.1 Standard 3.1 Enhanced Compat.
DOS_FILES 20 100
DOS_HIGH Off On
DPMI_DOS_API AUTO ENABLED
DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT 64 128
IDLE_SECONDS 0 5
IDLE_SENSITIVITY 75 95
KBD_ALTHOME_BYPASS On On
VIDEO_8514A_XGA_IOTRAP Off Off
VIDEO_SWITCH_NOTIFICATION On On
XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT 2048 6144+
In addition to the above changes, the WIN_DDE and WIN_CLIPBOARD
settings must be "On" (the default setting). If you have modified
these defaults on either the 3.1 Session or Data Exchange pages
of the "Win-OS/2 Setup" object, you will get the error message
"WPWin cannot communicate with the WorkPlace Shell."
Launching OS/2 Objects/Programs from WordPerfect 6.x for Windows
Launching OS/2 applications using WordPerfect 6.x for Windows
requires using the DDE services available in the WordPerfect
macro language. Since macros you write can be placed on the
Tool Bar, on the menu, or as a keyboard hot-key, WordPerfect can
be seamlessly integrated with any OS/2 application.
In order to communicate with OS/2 applications, a WordPerfect
macro may use the various built-in DDE commands such as
DDEEXECUTE.
This communication channel can be used to pass any type of
request to a DDE server application running under OS/2.
It is possible to run an application that is not a Windows
application from within a WordPerfect macro by using the
WordPerfect-provided DDE server that runs inside the OS/2
Workplace Shell. The relevant DDE conversation service name is
"<MonitorServiceName>" and the topic is called "<MonitorTopic>."
The sample macro below opens three objects by merely talking to
this OS/2 DDE service that WPWin6x provides for you:
-- The OS/2 Workplace Shell Color Palette
-- A REXX command file called "C:\REXX.CMD"
-- The PM Diary Calculator program
// This command string requests that the Color Palette object
// should be opened. The string "<WP_CLRPAL>" is the ObjectID
// of the color palette object, as listed in the C:\OS2\INI.RC
// file used to build the default Workplace Shell desktop when
// you install OS/2.
Command1:="<WORDPERF_6xWORDPERF>!*EX*<WP_CLRPAL>"
// This command string requests that the file C:\REXX.CMD be
// executed in an OS/2 Windows session.
Command2:="<WORDPERF_6xWORDPERF>!*EX*C:\REXX.CMD"
// This command string requests that the PM Diary application
// be executed.
Command3:="<WORDPERF_6xWORDPERF>!*EX*C:\OS2\APPS\PMDCALC.EXE"
// Initiate a DDE conversation with the WordPerfect services
// that run within the OS/2 Workplace Shell.
DDEINITIATE(hConv;"<MonitorServiceName>";"<MonitorTopic>")
// Pass our DDE requests through.
DDEEXECUTEEXT(Result;hConv; Command1;1000;)
DDEEXECUTEEXT(Result;hConv; Command2;1000;)
DDEEXECUTEEXT(Result;hConv; Command3;1000;)
// Terminate the conversation.
DDETERMINATE(hConv)
Miscellaneous Information
Printing from the Network
If you are having difficulty printing from an LPTx: printer
port when using a network printer, try using the
corresponding LPTx.OS2 printer port.
To use an LPTx.OS2 printer port with a WordPerfect printer
driver, you must print to a file using the filename LPTx.OS2.
SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY
This line is automatically added to your CONFIG.SYS file when
SETUPOS2.EXE is run. It prevents OS/2 from restarting all of
the applications that were running the last time you shut
down. The only applications that will be started are the ones
in your Startup folder.
Adding this line to your CONFIG.SYS insures that QuickLaunch
will start the common Win-OS/2 seamless session with the
Win-OS/2 settings recommended for WordPerfect 6.x for Windows.
NOTE: To prevent the program from adding this line to your
CONFIG.SYS, use the /norestartobjects command line switch or
uncheck the Add SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY option
in the Options dialog.
Backup .INI Files
SETUPOS2.EXE creates backup copies of your CONFIG.SYS,OS2.INI,
and OS2SYS.INI files before modifying them. The backup copies
are located in the same directories as the original files and
have the extension .Wxx, where xx is a number from 01 to 99.
The first time you run SETUPOS2, the extension will be .W01,
the second time it will be .W02, and so on.
NOTE: To prevent the program from creating the backup files,
use the /nobackup command line switch or uncheck the Make
backup option in the Options dialog. |

Questions and Answers
About Running WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows under OS/2 2.0
May 1992
Question:
What should be done if the message "Error DDEML.DLL Not Found.
Insert In Drive A: And Press Any Key" appears when a user tried to
start WordPerfect for Windows under OS/2 2.0?
Answer:
WPWin installs this file into the C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM
directory. The file was not in this directory. The user can
correct the error by running the WPWin install from a DOS full
screen. Select a Custom installation and answer Yes to "Install
Shared Product Files." The DOS full screen prompt is found by
selecting OS/2 System, then Command Prompts. One user received
this message because the OS/2 files were located on the C: drive
and WPWin was installed to the D: drive. Copying the DDEML.DLL
file to the C: drive corrected the error.
Another user not running under OS/2 corrected this error by copying
the DDEML.DLL shared code file into the WPWIN directory or any
other directory in the path.
Question:
What directory should the DDEML.DLL file be stored?
Answer:
If you install WordPerfect for Windows to a different drive from
the drive containing Windows, the DDEML.DLL file will be placed in
a \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory on the same drive as where WPWin was
installed. For example, if you have Windows on the C: drive, but
are installing WPWin to a D: drive, the D:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory
will be created. Since the DDEML.DLL needs to be in the same
directory as Windows, you will need to copy the DDEML.DLL file from
D:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. You can then delete the
DDEML.DLL file and the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory from the D: drive.
Question:
What should be done if under the OS/2 2.0 Windows portion, the
screen fonts for the 8514 monitor do not show up in WordPerfect for
Windows?
Answer:
The customer can use four Windows 3.0 for DOS font files to replace
the font files OS/2 is using for the 8514 monitor. They are
COUREF.FON, HELVF.FON, SYMBOLF.FON, and TMSRF.FON. These files can
be found in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and should be copied to
the WINOS2\SYSTEM directory.
Question:
A user has the initial 11/4/91 release of WPWin and wants to make
it work through OS/2 2.0. How can this be done?
Answer:
The interim release of WPWin (04/30/92) corrects the problem of
users not being able to execute WPWin under OS/2 2.0. In the mean
time you can use the FIXWP.EXE and UNFIXWP.EXE files to run the
11/04/91 release of WordPerfect for Windows on OS/2 2.0. These
files are located in the C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM\ subdirectory in
the 6.177 revision of OS/2 2.0 and in the C:\OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\
subdirectory in the 6.304 revision. This fix from IBM modifies the
WPWINFIL.EXE file. To use the fix type FIXWP <path>\WPWINFIL.EXE
at the SYSTEM subdirectory. After FIXWP.EXE is executed you will
get a message telling you that WPWin will no longer run under DOS
and to use UNFIXWP.EXE in order to execute WPWin under DOS. When
the process is finished, a message will appear notifying the user
that WPWin will no longer run under DOS unless they reverse the
process by using UNFIXWP.EXE. However, one user was able to run
WPWin under DOS without using UNFIX.EXE. This information can also
be found in the readme file from OS2.
Note: Users who encounter this problem should be sent the interim
release dated 04/30/92.
Question:
Will WordPerfect for Windows run on any 1.x version of OS/2?
Answer:
No. WordPerfect for Windows will run on OS/2 2.0 in the release of
WPWin after 11/04/91.
Question:
Can the customers in Canada who are still using the beta version of
OS/2 2.0 be able to use the FIXWP command to run WordPerfect for
Windows?
Answer:
No. They will need to use the interim of WPWin after 11/4/91 or
get the shipping version of OS/2 2.0.
Question:
A user running OS/2 2.0 on a Novell network was unable to print
from WordPerfect for Windows with WP printer drivers (11/04/91
program and 04/15/92 printer drivers). The user could print a file
to disk and copy the print-to-disk file at DOS to the redirected
port. How can the user print directly from WordPerfect for
Windows?
Answer:
The user can correct the problem by changing the printer port in
WordPerfect to C:\OS2\SPOOL\LPTx.OS2. With this method, the print
job is spooled to the directory then sent to the printer. Users
must log on to the network with the Netware drivers first.
Question:
The error "Sharing Violation" appeared when a user running under
OS/2 2.0 tried to enter WordPerfect for Windows (11/04/91) using
WPWIN.EXE instead of FIXWP.EXE. Now when the user reboots OS/2
2.0, the computer tries to load WPWin again and gives a sharing
violation. What can the user do to correct this problem?
Answer:
This is working as designed. OS/2 2.0 will try to activate the
program that had the sharing violation when it is rebooted. To fix
this, you will need to press Ctrl-Esc once it tries to start WPWin.
This will take you to the Windows (task) list. You then need to
open a DOS BOX and run the FIXWP.EXE <path>\WPWINFIL.EXE to get
into WPWin correctly. You can then make the change to the WPWin
execution so that it will load with FIXWP.EXE instead of WPWIN.EXE.
Question:
Do you need Microsoft Windows to run Windows programs (i.e.,
WordPerfect for Windows) in OS/2 2.0?
Answer:
No. OS/2 2.0 can run Windows applications without having Microsoft
Windows installed.
Question:
Does WordPerfect for Windows support DDE links between OS/2
products and WPWin when WPWin is run in the OS2/WIN full screen of
OS/2 version 2.0?
Answer:
DDE text links only are supported currently. DDE Graphics links
are not currently supported. The reason is that the link is using
the Clipboard as an intermediary buffer.
Question:
How can a user of OS/2 2.0 and WPWin set up WP Icons on the OS/2
Desktop?
Answer:
The 11/04/91 release of WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows does not set up
the WordPerfect icons on the OS/2 Desktop after it has been
installed on OS/2 2.0. The steps below will allow users to set up
the WordPerfect icons on the OS/2 Desktop:
1. Double-click on the OS/2 System folder.
2. Double-click on the System Setup folder .
3. Double-click on Migrate Applications. The "Find Programs"
window should appear.
4. Remove the highlight by clicking once on the drives you do not
want to search.
5. Make sure there is a check mark next to "Windows Programs."
To find programs faster and for easy identification remove the
check marks left of the OS/2 and DOS application boxes.
6. Click on Find to display the Migrate Programs window with a
message "Searching For Programs Please Wait..." After a few
minutes WordPerfect for Windows should be listed under
applications.
7. Remove the highlighting from the applications you do not want
to migrate.
8. Select Migrate! A folder, Additional Windows Programs, is
created on the Desktop with the WordPerfect Icon.
Question:
A user running WordPerfect for Windows under OS/2 2.0 on an OS2 Lan
Server network would receive the error message "Unable To Print"
and could not print with a WP printer driver. How can this problem
be resolved?
Answer:
The user can correct the problem by making sure the network was
loaded in OS/2 Setup and by selecting LPT1.OS2 as the port.
Question:
A customer was getting the error message "Cannot Find WPCSHAR1.DLL.
How can this be resolved?
Answer:
The following items are several things that should be checked:
1. The *.DLL files are found in WPC subdirectory.
2. The WPWIN.EXE and WPWINFIL.EXE are found in the WPWIN
subdirectory.
3. Check for the WP{WP}.ENV file in the WPWIN directory and make
sure that it contains the /WPC pointing to the shared
directory and the /NI, /PS, and /NT switches.
4. Check the order of entries in the CONFIG.SYS file. Any
extended memory manager (e.g., QEMM, HIMEM, etc.) should be on
the first line before everything else.
5. Check the date on the disks. One user received this error
when trying to install the 09/25/91 beta release of WPWin.
Possible work arounds would be as follows:
1. Make sure that the path in the autoexec.bat file includes the
WPWIN and WPC directories.
2. Try copying the *.DLL files into the WPWIN directory.
3. Try reinstalling after deleting all WPWIN files, including the
*.INI files that are loaded right into the Windows
subdirectory.
4. Make sure the user has not changed the properties for the
WPWin icon (File|Properties) from WPWIN.EXE to another
filename such as WPWINFIL.EXE. |

WIN_RUN_MODE 3.1 Standard 3.1 Enhanced Compat.
DOS_FILES 20 100
DOS_HIGH Off On
DPMI_DOS_API AUTO ENABLED
DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT 64 128
IDLE_SECONDS 0 5
IDLE_SENSITIVITY 75 95
KBD_ALTHOME_BYPASS On On
VIDEO_8514A_XGA_IOTRAP Off Off
VIDEO_SWITCH_NOTIFICATION On On
XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT 2048 6144+
"WPWin cannot communicate with the WorkPlace Shell."
// This command string requests that the Color Palette object

SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY

1. Insert the WordPerfect 6.x for Windows Install 1 disk

the SETUP.EXE icon, then follow the on-screen instructions.
-- The OS/2 Workplace Shell colour Palette
-- A REXX command file called "C:\REXX.CMD"
-- The PM Diary Calculator program
// This command string requests that the colour Palette object
// should be opened. The string "<WP_CLRPAL>" is the ObjectID
// of the colour palette object, as listed in the C:\OS2\INI.RC
// file used to build the default Workplace Shell desktop when
// you install OS/2.
Command1:="<WORDPERF_6xWORDPERF>!*EX*<WP_CLRPAL>"
// This command string requests that the file C:\REXX.CMD be
// executed in an OS/2 Windows session.
Command2:="<WORDPERF_6xWORDPERF>!*EX*C:\REXX.CMD"
// This command string requests that the PM Diary application
// be executed.
Command3:="<WORDPERF_6xWORDPERF>!*EX*C:\OS2\APPS\PMDCALC.EXE"
// Initiate a DDE conversation with the WordPerfect services
// that run within the OS/2 Workplace Shell.
DDEINITIATE(hConv;"<MonitorServiceName>";"<MonitorTopic>")
// Pass our DDE requests through.
DDEEXECUTEEXT(Result;hConv; Command1;1000;)
DDEEXECUTEEXT(Result;hConv; Command2;1000;)
DDEEXECUTEEXT(Result;hConv; Command3;1000;)
// Terminate the conversation.

Press Release
WordPerfect 6.1 For Windows Offers New Level Of Integration With OS/2 Warp
WordPerfect for Windows integrates with the Workplace Shell better than any Windows or OS/2 word processor
OREM, Utah -- January 18, 1995 -- Novell, Inc. is now shipping a new tools disk that gives WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows users a new level of integration with IBM's OS/2 Warp. The OS/2 Integration Tools Disk gives OS/2 Warp customers using WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows more Workplace Shell integration than any other Windows or OS/2 word processor.
"This integration demonstrates our commitment to our customers who have OS/2 Warp as their desktop operating system," said Mark Calkins, general manager of Novell's Business Applications Division. "WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows gives users the latest word processing technology, strong performance and the best integration with the object-oriented Workplace Shell."
According to an OS/2 Magazine study, more than 85 percent of OS/2 users run Windows applications under OS/2. In March 1994, WordPerfect for Windows was the winner of the word processing review in OS/2 Magazine, beating out the OS/2 word processors Lotus Ami Pro and Describe Inc.'s Describe. The review named WordPerfect for Windows the best word processor for use under OS/2.
"The WordPerfect integration with the Workplace Shell lets Windows users take advantage of the new capabilities in OS/2 Warp," said John W. Thompson, general manager of Software Developer Programs at IBM. "OS/2 Warp gives customers the power of a 32-bit environment today."
WordPerfect's exclusive Automatic Document Detection (ADD) feature automatically registers files as document objects on the Workplace Shell. Once objects are registered, users can take advantage of the object-oriented capabilities of OS/2 such as drag and drop. Users can turn ADD on for any or all folders to automatically register any WordPerfect 5.x and 6.0 file, as well as any other format that can be opened and converted by WordPerfect 6.1.
WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows takes advantage of all the drag and drop capabilities of the OS/2 Workplace Shell including:
Launching.Dragging a file onto the WordPerfect program object will launch WordPerfect and open the file.
Opening.Dragging a WordPerfect document object to a WordPerfect document window will open the file. Users can open multiple files this way.
Inserting.Dragging any file to an open WordPerfect document while holding down the Ctrl key will insert the file into the document. Graphic images will be inserted into graphics boxes; spreadsheet and database information will be inserted into tables.
Linking.Dragging a file to an open document, while holding down the Ctrl-Shift keys, embeds the file as a sub-document with a link to the original file.
Printing.Dragging a WordPerfect object to an OS/2 printer object will print the file with WordPerfect formatting intact.
Fonts and Colors.Dragging a font or color from the OS/2 Font Palette into a WordPerfect document will change the font or color at the insert point.
The OS/2 Integration Tools Disk works with both WordPerfect 6.0a and 6.1 for Windows, and with OS/2 2.x and OS/2 Warp version 3. The disk is available for $4 by calling (800) 321-4566 and is also available from CompuServe, SpaceWorks and the WordPerfect BBS. |

Any Windows or DOS application you run under OS/2 version 2.x
will only be able to use files with standard DOS filenames (eight
characters with a maximum three-character extension). Any files
with HPFS long names will be hidden from your Windows and DOS
applications, including all files with a long subdirectory name.
For this reason, WordPerfect, the Novell Applications Group,
recommends installing OS/2 to a drive with the FAT file system.
See "Moving Your Desktop from HPFS to FAT" below for more
information.

NOTE: To prevent the program from adding this line to your
CONFIG.SYS, use the /norestartobjects command line switch or
uncheck the Add SET RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY option
in the Options dialog.
Backup .INI Files
SETUPOS2.EXE creates backup copies of your CONFIG.SYS,OS2.INI,
and OS2SYS.INI files before modifying them. The backup copies

====================
README.NEW
====================
This README file contains a brief description of the new features
available in WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2. Some information has not
yet been documented in the Reference manual.
Please refer to these files for additional information:

BACKGROUND PRINTING
====================
WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 takes advantage of OS/2's multi-threaded
background printing ability. This means you are returned to
the editing screen directly after your document is sent to the
printer, so you can continue working on a WordPerfect document or
even work in another application running under OS/2. See Print
in WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 Reference for more information.
DOCUMENT TEMPLATES
====================
The WordPerfect Templates folder contains five templates you
can use to create envelopes, fax cover sheets, letterheads,
memos, and a default WordPerfect document. See OS/2 and
WordPerfect in WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 Reference for more
information.
The Reference manual incorrectly states that you can open
WordPerfect by dragging and dropping a template on the
WordPerfect program object to open WPOS/2 and place the template
in the document window. In order to open WPOS/2 in this manner,
you must first copy the template to your desktop or to another
folder so that it becomes a WordPerfect document object.
LONG DOCUMENT NAMES
====================
If you are using OS/2's High Performance File System (HPFS), you
can use as many as 254 characters--including spaces and
periods--to more accurately and descriptively name your
WordPerfect documents. See the Transition Guide and Directories
in WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 Reference for more information.
OS/2 WORKPLACE SHELL INTEGRATION
====================
WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 is designed to take advantage of many of
the unique capabilities of the OS/2 Workplace Shell.
AUTOMATIC DOCUMENT DETECTION
When you open a folder containing documents made in WordPerfect
5.x for DOS, Windows, RS/6000, or VAX, OS/2 automatically detects
that they are WordPerfect documents and changes the data-file
object for each to a WordPerfect document object (a document with
a superimposed, blue "WP"). This enables you to quickly see
which documents are in WordPerfect format. See DRAG AND DROP
MANIPULATION OF DOCUMENTS below for information on how you can
use these document objects with WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2.
DOCUMENT OBJECT HELP
You can click on any WordPerfect program object or document
object with the right mouse button, then choose Help for a brief
description of the object.
DOCUMENT SUMMARY DETAILS VIEW
Using the OS/2 Details View option, you can read your document's
summary information before you open the document or launch
WordPerfect. From the Workplace Shell, you can view specific
document information from a WordPerfect document object, such as
author, typist, creation date, subject, and keywords. You can
also view summary information for an entire folder and sort by
any of the categories displayed in the Details View.
DRAG AND DROP MANIPULATION OF DOCUMENTS
You can use WordPerfect document objects to start WordPerfect 5.2
for OS/2 and open a document in three ways:
Double-click the document object to open WordPerfect with
the document in an open window.
Use the right mouse button to drag and drop the document
object on the WordPerfect program object to open WordPerfect
with the document in an open window.
Use the right mouse button to drag and drop the
WordPerfect document object on an open WordPerfect window.
This places the document in a new window. If you want to
insert the document into the current document at the cursor
location, hold down the Ctrl key while dragging and dropping
the document object.
You can also use the right mouse button to drag and drop the
document object on the Shredder object to delete the document, or
on the OS/2 Printer object to print the document. WordPerfect 5.2
for OS/2 does not need to be running to drag the document object
to the Shredder object or to the Printer object.
See OS/2 and WordPerfect in WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 Reference
for more information.
DRAG AND DROP MANIPULATION OF GRAPHICS
You can insert a graphics file object into the current document
at the cursor location. The graphic is inserted into a figure
box.
While holding down the Ctrl key, use the right mouse button
to drag and drop the graphics file object on the WordPerfect
document window.
You can use this method with any of the graphics formats
WordPerfect supports. See Graphics: Formats and Programs in
WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 Reference for a list of supported
graphics formats.
DRAG AND DROP MANIPULATION OF SPREADSHEET FILES
You can use spreadsheet objects to start WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2
and open a document in two ways. The spreadsheet is imported
into a table in WPOS/2.
Use the right mouse button to drag and drop the spreadsheet
object on the WordPerfect program object to open WordPerfect
with the spreadsheet in an open window.
Use the right mouse button to drag and drop the
spreadsheet object on an open WordPerfect window. This
imports the spreadsheet into a new document window. If you
want to import the spreadsheet into the current document at
the cursor location, hold down the Ctrl key while dragging
and dropping the spreadsheet object.
You can use these methods with any of the spreadsheet formats
WordPerfect supports. If you want to link the spreadsheet rather
than import it, you cannot use the drag and drop method. See
Spreadsheet: Import and Link in WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2
Reference.
PRINTER SUPPORT
====================
With WordPerfect 5.2 for OS/2 you can choose to print your
document using one of WordPerfect Corporation's many different
printer drivers, or you can choose to print using the same OS/2
printer driver you use with your other OS/2 applications.
If you choose a WordPerfect printer driver you can use the same
printer driver (in most cases) that you used with WordPerfect 5.1
for DOS or WordPerfect 5.1/5.2 for Windows. You can choose from
more than 900 printers that WordPerfect supports.
If you choose an OS/2 printer driver, you can print color
graphics on those printers that support color, and you can print
with the same fonts and formatting as your other OS/2
applications. Unless you have a PostScript printer, using the
OS/2 printer driver is the only way to print using the PostScript
Type 1 fonts included with WordPerfect. See Print in WordPerfect
5.2 for OS/2 Reference for more information.
STARTING WORDPERFECT
====================
In addition to the many other ways to start WordPerfect 5.2 for
OS/2, you can also open WPOS/2 by clicking with the right mouse
button on the document object, and then clicking WordPerfect on
the menu that displays. |
