Extended Visual Rexx è un pacchetto di funzioni esterne per programmi REXX. EVRexx consente l'uso di finestre di dialogo Presentation Manager per programmi scritti in linguaggio REXX. Codice sorgente incluso.

Questo pacchetto è stato ispirato da VREXX, un progetto simile scritto da R.B.Lam del Centro Ricerche IBM T.J.Watson.

VREXX ha alcune lmitazioni che sono state colmate da EVRexx:

  • EVRexx si può usare con più di un processo.
  • Con EVRexx è possibile (e si deve) definire le proprie finestre di dialogo. Per cui è possibile miscelare i controlli.
  • EVRexx consente finestre di dialogo modali.
  • Ripristino delle risorse di sistema in caso di errori fatali (REXX).
  • Le finestre di dialogo sono inserite nella window list di sistema.

Il prezzo da pagare per tutte le funzionalità avanzate di EVRexx è che il pacchetto non è semplice da usare come lo è VREXX. Inoltre, le capacità grafiche di VREXX non sono state ancora implementate in EVRexx.

Questo software è distribuito come pacchetto compresso, da scaricare e installare manualmente; se ci sono prerequisiti da soddisfare, andranno anch'essi scaricati e installati manualmente.
