GNU sed (stream editor) is a non-interactive command-line text editor.

GNU sed is commonly used to filter text, i.e., it takes text input, performs some operation (or set of operations) on it, and outputs the modified text. sed is typically used for extracting part of a file using pattern matching or substituting multiple occurrences of a string within a file.

This software is distributed in two modes:
  • as compressed package that you have to download and manually install; if prerequisites are required, you will have to manually install them too;
  • as RPM package; you can install it using your favorite rpm package manager, that will take care to download and install both the software and its prerequisites.
Choose the installation mode that you prefer. Please note that not all the versions are available in both the installation modes.

Installation with rpm

This program is installable using the rpm package manager. See below for the install string. Required prerequisites are automatically processed by the package manager and, if needed, downloaded and installed.

Comments

Hello, when trying to compile the lastest TIFF image library, version 4.1.0, I get the infamous "checking for a sed that does not truncate output ... no acceptable sed could be found in $PATH" error. I tried it with both sed-4.X versions that are available at Hobbes. Would you please be so kind to provide a sed version for OS/2 that does not issue this exception ? Thank you. Alex
