Phoenix OS/4 kernel

OS/4 is a research project intended to recreate the original kernel for the IBM Operating System/2. The main goal of the project is to make the system able to work on the PCs where the original kernel can't.

Some of the new features included in OS/4 kernel:

  • new OS2LDR (QSINIT loader compatible with it), that allows kernel selection menu with custom CONFIG.SYS for each entry
  • hardware virtualization (VT-x, AMD-V)
  • PAT extensions to cache video cards memory
  • PSE36, instead of PAE to access memory above 4GB
  • HPET (High Precision Event Timer) support
